Peas Nutrition Information
About Peas
Peas are actually legumes and are one of the few that are actually cooked as vegetables. Nature packages green peas conveniently in a pod all of which have a vibrantly delicious flavour, wonderful texture and a wealth of health-promoting nutrients.
In the 1970s, sugar snap peas were developed, the result of a cross between garden peas and snow peas.
Peas Nutrition Information
Peas are actually high in nutrients. One cup provides a good amount of vitamins, minerals, dietary fibre and protein. They provide Vitamin K (important for blood clotting and bone health). They also provide folic acid and Vitamin 6 both of which support cardiac health.
Green peas are also a good source of iron, a mineral necessary for normal blood cell formation and function, whose deficiency results in anemia, fatigue, decreased immune function, and learning problems. In addition, green peas are a very good source of vitamin C, an important immune booster and antioxidant.
