Avocados are a fruit, not a vegetable, belonging to the genus Persea in the Lauraceae family. This nutritious fruit comes in a number of varieties such as Hass, Fuerte and Reed. Avocadoes contain lots of a dietary fibre which helps move food through the body efficiently to prevent constipation. Avocadoes are a good source of vitamin B6. This vitamin is needed for the nervous system, for healthy skin and to produce energy in the body.
