March 2006 Newsletter
Message from Adam, Amanda and Leonie

Hi everyone,

As always, the year seems to be passing by quite quickly and as we continue to grow so does our range of organic food and products.  You may have noticed we now have a baby weaning box available, it includes fruits and vegetables that are perfect for making delicious purees along with some baby rice cereal.

As we’re moving into Autumn you’ll start to see a change from the refreshing fruits we’ve been enjoying over the last few months to the root vegetables that the cooler months bring.

And as April is just around the corner keep a look out on our website for organic chocolate Easter treats to surprise and delight loved ones. In our next newsletter we’ll put a healthy spin on the guilty pleasure of chocolate as well as a special Easter culinary delight.

Lastly we would like to let you all know that a percentage from each order you place every week with us will be given to The World Society for the Protection of Animals.  WSPA focuses on raising the standard of international animal welfare.  So with every one of your orders not only are you continuing to live as nature intended but you are also helping the animals in need.... another great reason to choose The Organic Food and Produce Company.

All the best, The team at The Organic Food & Produce Company

A Few Health Tips

Each month we are going to give you a few simple health tips to help you move towards better health.

  • Terrific tea: Herbal teas can be counted as part of your daily water intake, so and drink up. We recommend green tea – it will hydrate your body and flush out toxins.
  • Greenie: Choose dark green leafy vegetables for their antioxidant qualities.
  • Good fats: No need to feel guilty about eating the ‘good fats’… nuts, avocadoes and olive oil are all great sources of mono saturated fats.

What’s in season?

  • Brussel sprouts
  • Chinese bok choy – perfect for any stir fry
  • Beans
  • Sweet corn
  • Apples – some of the best we’ve ever tasted at the moment
  • Nashi pears – really refreshing
  • Watermelon

Recipe of the Month

Kumara and coriander soup

Ingredients:

  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • 2 medium leeks (700g), chopped coarsely
  • 3 cloves garlic, quartered
  • 2 medium kumara (800g), chopped coarsely
  • 1 litre (4 cup) chicken stock 2/3 cup (160ml)
  • light evaporated milk 1/3 cup
  • finely chopped fresh coriander

Heat oil in large saucepan; cook leek and garlic, stirring, until leek softens. Add kumara; cook, stirring, 5 minutes. Add stock; bring to the boil. Reduce heat; simmer, covered, about 20 minutes or until kumara softens. Blend or process soup, in batches, until smooth; return soup to same cleaned pan. Simmer, uncovered, until soup thickens slightly. Stir in evaporated milk and coriander; stir over heat, without boiling, until heated through. Top with fresh coriander leaves if desired. Serves 4.

Grocery and products department

Honey is a sweet treat and a good substitute for sugar in our drinks. It is great for treating a lot of other conditions along with being a powerful antioxidant.  Try our delicious certified organic raw honey; you can pick up a 500g or 1kg jar.

On the products side - Studies have shown that most substances can be absorbed through the skin and that up to 60% of any substance applied on the skin may enter the body this way. For this very reason alone we recommend you try our ‘Emma Organics’ facial cleanser. It’s a nice mild cleanser to use twice a day. Also available are the toner and moisturiser.

Special Offer

As our certified organic grocery box has been quite popular we thought we would give you 10% off the total of this box anytime you order it in the remainder of March. The Essentials Grocery Box will last you well and is a great way to rid your pantry of chemicals… contains items like olive oil, balsamic vinegar, flour, jam, tea etc. Just mention this offer over the phone or in the ‘special instructions’ section when placing your order over the web.
