Honey Nutrition Information
What is Honey? Honey is a sweet and viscous fluid produced by bees and other insects from the nectar of flowers.
"The definition of honey stipulates a pure product that does not allow for the addition of any other substance. This includes, but is not limited to, water or other sweeteners," according the National Honey Board 2003.
Uses for Honey As well as being a delicious spread on toast or rice crackers, raw untreated honey is a good substitute for sugar – it is actually sweeter and absorbs more quickly.
Therapeutically, honey has been used for centuries to treat such ailments as sore throats and coughs. Due to its anti-bacterial properties, it can be used on burns and wounds. Organic manuka honey can be used to treat nappy rash. Organic Manuka honey is now available in an ointment form.
Nutrition Qualities of Honey In addition to its combination of simple sugars (glucose, fructose, sucrose and maltose), it contains the B vitamins and some minerals and enzymes. |
